My (current!) Top 5 Kitchen Essentials
#1 A Dependable Mixer
I don't think I could function without a good mixer...at least not efficiently! This gem keeps up with everything I throw at it- from cake batter to cinnamon roll dough to TONS of buttercream! Plus it's simply adorable...as far as mixers go in the 'being adorable department' :) I've experimented with just a handful of other quality brands, and have found I'm content with the 2 KitchenAids in my kitchen. Definitely at the top of my essentials list!
#2 Bench Scraper
Seriously, this little gadget is priceless, it's probably the most versatile thing I own! Need to divide dough? Scrape the counter? Frost a cake tier? Measure something? Cut bars? Can't find a spatula? Need to level a cup of flour? Oh the possibilities! I bought mine on sale and it has without-a-doubt been a worthy purchase.
#3 Rolling Mat & Pin
Alright, technically this makes 2 things... but they're generally ALWAYS used together so we'll just pretend. My tupperware rolling mat saves me a world of trouble when it's clean-up time! And if you've never used an annoying rolling pin, they exist. It's like stovetop burners- we all have a favorite and don't realize the significance! I may have switched my current rolling pin with the one I used growing up because I liked it so much better...sorry mom! If you're reading this and hadn't realized that, I'll make you a pecan pie or something! Love you!
#4 Parchment Paper
I don't need to say anything to justify parchment paper, it just doesn't get enough credit! 100% recommend using when baking cookies, it makes such a difference (plus it's easy clean-up and I'm all about that!) I know some bakers who swear by it for lining cake pans, but I've yet to experiment with it.
#5 Calendar/Planner
Okay last, but certainly not least. I actually have 2 planners... And without them whatever small amount of sanity I have would be gone! The calendar keeps my upcoming orders organized, and the cute cow planner is for pages of lists so I can check stuff off and feel productive! It's also used to jot ideas, do food-costing, and tuck recipe cards inside. I could just use my phone or laptop, but I'm convinced if I write things down I'll remember them better. ;)
My Kitchen Aid mixer is used constantly and my Silpat. The Silpat I've had for probably 20 years and it's still in good shape.
